Sunday Wordle #68: port, anchor, pitch, rail, stern, sink, deck, store, wake, marrow, link, navigate

This Just In

Stomach sinking as a heavy stone
pitched over the steel rail of a bridge,
the morning news anchor–still plastered
from a special port stored away
for bad news or glad tidings–wondered
how he could navigate to his desk
in the wake of the late night news
bulletin flashing across his screen
last night.  Someone had murdered
his mentor, marrow of all journalists
and reporters, past and present.
What was the link?  Who would want
to kill this noble newsman?  Stern-
faced, focused, the very tenor
of his voice transmitted truth
to the ears of his listeners.
Sorry end to a grand era.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I think you have a story you can continue! Intrigue, murder, what was the reason for drinking the port in the first place… had me on the edge of my seat!

    Thanks for your visit.
