Sunday Wordle #70: insidious, nick, limbs, waves, fix, tip, tinny, vivid, gentle, tinted, preludes, split, drifts

Gentle Nick’s Curiosity Shop

Under frayed awning–
stripes of once vivid
yellow and bold blue–hangs
a sepia-tinted sign
welcoming curiosity seekers
to Gentle Nick’s, prelude
to oddities found within.
Tinny turntables, their needle
tips worn down by old vinyl
records, now scratched
beyond repair, yet kept
as precious memorabilia
to those aging ones, fixed
lines etched into faces
like grooves in 33’s.
Drifters are ushered in
to Nick’s shop become
an audience for grand tales
of porcelain dolls–long-limbed
and fine-featured–insidious
clowns with hidden motives,
and shelves of ancient, dusty
books, which, when riffled,
send waves of cloud-
scented memories.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
