Sunday Wordle #83: sorry, bust, find, unless, beauty, life, wrong, pride, belong, fire, silent, faces, pawn

What A Shame

 In thinking we belonged
together, I find I was wrong.
You set a silent fire smoldering
within me, boasted a beautiful promise
of a life to be shared.  My pride
would not allow me to face
the sorry fact that I was merely
a pawn in your lowly scheme,
until the cops stormed in, busting
up your sweet secret operation.
You cannot raise bail money,
unless another sucker saunters
by, and falls for your heartless lies.
What a shame!

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
