Animal’s Farm

In a bucolic setting,
an Eden on the edge
of an abandoned town,
the synergy of formerly
kept animals now living
an alternate lifestyle,
could be felt in the wealth
of camaraderie.  A place
where balance and common
sense ruled.

At first, out in the open,
the new doe tiptoed
around trees, and flowers,
not free long enough
to believe potential harm
would not come her way
from others.  Her ears
stood at attention
with every rustling
of leaves, and scampering
of squirrels–some of
the oldest residents. After
a while, kindness
of cows, silly antics
of sheep, and playful-
ness of ponies, set
her mind at rest.  No one
here missed their old lives.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
