Get The Message?

What message is she sending
her daughter, he said, indignant
grandfather, galled at his daughter’s
devil-may-care attitude. She wasn’t
raised that way, he said, silver shock
of hair brushing an anger-red forehead.
Grand-daughter Lilly, loves music,
wearing mother’s makeup, and following
dance moves of racy rock stars
not much older than she. Would you
rather she texted and played
phone games all day, his wife asked,
or stare at a television screen?
It was hard for him to hear her
over the canned laughter.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
