Field of Poppies

Written for The Sunday Whirl – Wordle #163

lean, sturdy, scent, fluid, launch, chase, paving, terrain, propel, jovial, countless, field

Countless poppies dotted the field
sending their scent skyward
in fluid movement
of their sturdy stems.
Remember our jovial, leaner
days, when we’d chase each other
from one end to the other?
It all came back in a rush,
propelling me out of my daily
chores. Sound of the trucks
ripping up our fertile terrain,
and paving it over–all to launch
another superstore.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
