Scents from the Sea

“Seasonal Scents”
S’mores, salty ocean breezes, veggie burgers on the grill, sweaty people on the bus — what’s the smell you associate the most with summer?

I smell coconut lotion drifting
down all the blankets laid out
on the beach. Within reach
is a ball of red and white
plastic. I chase it down
to the ocean’s hem, where
salt and fish vie for first place.
Summer scents are numerous,
but for me, it is all about
the beach.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
