Island Weary

Written for The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #172

words:  last, disclose, point, flamboyant, signal, irritation, appetite, bliss, sun, tire, sound, jumbled

She is tired, irritated
at the relentless brightness
of the sun. At first
the romantic island sounded
like bliss, which her appetite
craved after the last dismal
weeks of winter. Point is,
flamboyant flowers begin
to jumble together when viewed
under shimmering heat waves.
She raises a hand to signal
the waiter. After a third
Riki-Tiki Kamakazi Blue,
she will not find the waiter’s
obsequiousness quite so
annoying. Of course, none
of this vacation’s low points
will ever be disclosed
to ears of envious coworkers,
upon her return.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
