Artists of Notes

Written for:  dVerse Poets, “Under the Influence of Music”
Write a dedication to your favorite genre(s), song(s), or
all of the above

Charlie “Bird” Parker
Thelonius Monk
Jazz swings in my fingers,
burns me in smoke

John Lee Hooker
Buddy Guy
paint me indigo
tones of the soul

Janis Joplin
Jim Morrison
tore out my heart
poetry on fire

Rolling Stones
rocked me in beats
changed the times

Too many artists
and genres to note.
Music lives in my head,
keeps me afloat

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I love all of the artists you mention but I find it interesting that they all worked in the 20 – 25 year period from the late 40s to the late 60s. Well, the Stones still go on as do the “blues-men”.
