Written for Poetic Asides November Chapbook Challenge – Day 28
For today’s prompt, take the phrase “(blank) News,” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write the poem. Possible titles include: “Good News,” “Bad News,” “Daily News,” and “Old News.”

Thought I would catch
you up on your home
town, since you have not
been around. Maryann got
a cute new pup. Last week
Jimmy J. got locked up.
Your old friend, Jill, had baby six!
Tommy’s dog is covered in tick
bites, and remember your teacher,
Miss Sykes? She married the preacher.
Hope you make it home this year
for Christmas. Remember we love you, dear.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. Nothing like small home towns! I like your take on this.
