Journey For Clarity

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #190
words:  cape, haze, chains, filet, feign, sustain, exchange, enflame, deranged, cave, strain, traipse

Cape covered in haze,
a filet of fog masking
his way. The strain
of traipsing through vapor
is hard to sustain. He is close
to caving in, but the challenge
of finding the old seaside
cottage, enflames his determination.
Deranged, as his family labels
him, he knows he can exchange
those invisible chains–they are
not aware of, that weigh him down
in mind and body–for freedom.
He will view the expanse
of grasses, and ocean–clear
water to clarify his mind.
Feigning a stoicism
he does not quite measure
up to, he ploughs ahead.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
