Found Hounds

Written for dVerse Poets, Write to the art of Danny Gregory (Gabriella)

Drawing may be found at:

We are found hounds
noses to the ground
brought to a shelter
our lives helter-skelter.
When families came
it was our aim
to be noticed, plain
and simple. One day they arrived
and seemed to derive
pleasure in playing with us.
Without further fuss,
we gained a new home
were shampooed and combed.
We will give them a chance
and not look askance
when made to wear clothes
like costumes with bows.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
