In Reckless Moments

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #213

words:  chiseled, luminous, puzzle, wine, winner, feckless, superior, lucid, dumb, foreign, hollow, stain

Clandestine meetings
chiseled from stone
of life. Foreign concept
to both, this stain of adultery.
In lucid moments, they puzzle
over why they continue
this feckless behavior.
On luminous nights–dumbstruck,
sipping wine, making love–
they ignore the hollowness
sure to follow. Two simple
people, who, in no way,
feel superior to their spouses
or too clever to be caught.
Yet, they carry on knowing
that in this reckless game,
there are no winners.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
