Skimming Bottom

Written for:  Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads
Use at least 3 words:

reverse, corner, turn, bottom, peak, edge, limit, choose, bend, close, push, sleep

Do not use:  new, change, direction

What is you limit? How far
can you plunge
before hitting bottom? Trees
bending and snapping
in storms are pushed
to a destiny
they did not choose.
On the edge of sleep
you imagine your peak,
you are close to breaking
the code. Lids lower,
you turn the corner,
and put your life in reverse.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I love your lines about trees and destiny. That is so cleverly worded and so true. The whole is a great metaphor for life.

Hey Sara, sorry for taking so long to get back – work has been endless. I like how you started with questions, and then thoughtfully crafted the list into a meaningful approach to life. Thanks for adding your voice ~ M
