Spring Break

Written for:  dVerse Poets – Quadrille-2
The challenge is to write a poem of exactly 44 words using the chosen word: lull

Enter a lull
into the midst
of continuous,
colorless sheets
of teaming rain.

Enter a lull
of pre-spring–
no socks,
no jacket,
no frowns.

Enter a lull
where crocus popped
their yellow heads
out of the ground,
and liked what they saw.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  4. There is a children song about the early spring bloom (Anemone hepatica) and how it lures you to take off your shoes to early… Lovely.

  5. Great choice of title and I like how you build up to the climax of those crocuses bursting out of the ground–a joyful sign of impending spring.

I especially liked how the crocus popped up and liked what they saw! We too have had much, much rain this winter…

  8. I like the repetition of the first line and the personification of the crocuses was adorable.
We are heading into some incredibly cold temperatures so this was a nice escape.
