Qualifying Saints

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Saint/Saintliness
Celebrate a Saint or a saint who is meaningful to you.

They communicate their feelings
without speaking your language.

They stay close by your side
when you are ill, or sad.

They give you joy,
and ask for little.

They are the dogs of the world–
saints to me.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  9. Wonderful take on the prompt. Of course, I have known many canine saints, especially a little fox terrier from my youth. The eyes say it all, Sara. Now I have those little kitty imps around, and I wonder if they wouldn’t sniff at the idea of being considered saints, hee hee hee. Nice reading you again! Amy

Oh, now THIS is my favourite of all the poems. Yes, they certainly are. The most selfless beings on earth. Thank you.
