Written for:  Poetic Asides April 2016 Challenge – Day 18
Write an office poem – e.g., work, dentist, doctor, bank, etc.

If mail arrived from I.R.S.
requesting me, how would I dress?
I never had an audit done,
assume that it would not be fun . . .

Too well-adorned would make them think
on weekends I must dress in mink.
They’d think me rude dressed for a run.
Assume that it would not be fun . . .

I picture a room in worn green
paint, filled with people of stern mien.
Summoned by Attila the Hun?
Assume that it would not be fun . . .

When nervous I tend to yammer
on and on, or else I stammer.
Upon my leave, I’d know they won.
Assume that it would not be fun . . .

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
