Written for:  NaPoWriMo – Day 21
Write a poem in the voice of a minor character from a fairytale or myth.

She tells me of her adventures.
I venture to guess, it all must
have been enchanting–red queens,
mad hatters, white rabbits,
and disappearing cats. Still,
she might have taken me with her.
While she was having tea,
and chatting it up with a cat
in a tree, here was I–under a tree–
waiting anxiously for her
to come back. Some of my fur
fell out, my eyes reddened
from lack of sleep, and I did not
touch my food. She needed
a lesson in manners. I remained
aloof, proof of my disapproval
of her egregious behavior,
for the first five minutes.
Then she hugged me, promised
her adventures were over.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
