Face On The Cover

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #252

Words:  stand, spring, sense, mission, willing, track, lost, itch, gloss, nights, bell, pay

Graces cover of glossy magazine,
model’s brushed face, essence lost.
Belle Of Spring issue in stacks on
newsstands, teeth winking white
in night light. She worked hard
at her mission, itching to be new
face on cover. Watched her weight,
ran track, new dental implants,
hours under hot beams, camera
rolling. Willingness to sacrifice
all other parts of her life
has finally paid off. Alone,
magazine on coffee table, she misses
simple companionship of girlfriends.
She has no one with whom she can share
her good fortune.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
