Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads, “The Butterfly Effect”
I would like you to think about a random event in your own life, maybe something that just happened (or didn’t). If you feel unable to do that you can find an event in history or you might even invent your own and see how big effects can come from just a small cause. Find your butterfly and change the world to something else.

A transfer to California!
Dad was thrilled. Imagine
changing places with a west
coast postman. A dream
come true. Mom, not too
excited to leave New York.
Move refused. I did not
learn of this until I was
older. How curious. What
would it have been like
to grow up in California?
Maybe I would have been
a surfer with no anxiety
or depression. Certainly,
I would be driving. Then
I remember friends I have made
that are dear to me. Better
to believe there is a reason
we did not deviate from our path.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
