For today’s Quadrille (a poem of 44 words: no more, no less – not including the title), create a self-portrait. Perhaps it will be a snapshot of you in some moment of time. Or a taste of your tastes. Or a glimpse into the conglomeration of you — are we perhaps the ultimate nesting doll? Many of us post photos or images with our poems so in this instance, it could be a recent photo; a photo taken in your sepia days; a picture of something you cherish that in essence tells us who you are; an abstract drawing or a flower or animal or color that you ascribe to yourself. Try to make the image complementary to your words.
Why my love of golden-
faced sunflowers?
Bold heads held
high to sun, yet
at season’s end,
their bonnets droop,
their shy eye hidden.
Giraffes are tall also.
What tales their puzzled
coats could tell
if they spoke. I am cool
blues, red-hot jazz.
What a gorgeous mix of critters and images in this poem! Love it!

Intriguing…I like how you relate to the sunflower and giraffe (maybe you’re tall?) 🙂 And love that last line!

I always felt if I were a flower, I would be a sunflower. Just beautifully written! I love the vowel sounds at the end of each line – mostly short e.

Love how you’ve described yourself with the use of nonhuman things – the sunflower, giraffe, cool blues and red hot jazz (musical moods). So — go to my site http://lillianthehomepoet.com and look at the poem I posted just before my self portrait, Summer Tanka. It includes one of the most beautiful photos of sunflowers I’ve ever seen – taken in Provincetown, Cape Cod. Since you’ve sort of chosen this as one of your totems, I think you’ll love it.
And when I think of giraffes I think first of their so so expressive faces! LOVE this self portrait!

I love sunflowers too and tall things, perhaps because I’m short;-) Nicely done, Sara.

Un huh huh huh! Hayyyy-yah! You are Miles ahead of us, cool blues, red-hot jazz! Strongly metaphored — possibly even metaphived (ala Dave) — your bio shows us much about you without Beat-ing us over the head. Fingers snapping!
