Song of Amber

Written for Poets United Midweek Motif~The Song Of A Single Word
Your challenge: Chose a word which sings to you. Write a poem from its lyrics ~ or write a lyrical poem in answer to it. Enjoy!

“PHOSPHORESCENCE. Now there’s a word to lift your hat to… to find that phosphorescence, that light within, that’s the genius behind poetry.”
― Emily Dickinson

Amber sings
in sunlight,
facets hidden
in shadow open,
like a glorious
prism, through which
one can view the world
in golden translucence.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I can imagine holding it in my hand as shadow recedes and it comes alive to sing. And when it holds a creature, the song expands to wonder.
