Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads – Flash 55+
It is time for the Flash 55 Challenge in the month of August. The rules of this prompt have not changed: Write a piece of poetry or prose on a subject of your choice in precisely 55 WORDS.
optional:  use the word lacuna

According to The Free Dictionary.com, it means

1. An empty space or a missing part; a gap
2. A cavity, space, or depression, especially in a bone

She wonders
if he has
a normal heart.
Seems a part
is missing–a lacuna
exists where emotions
emanate. The space
worries her. He says
words that sound
hollow, attempting
to allay her fears.
A dalliance is one thing,
an alliance, another.
Auguries of doubt arise.
What might be in store for her,
she wonders.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  3. Oh, I would warn this woman to put as much distance between her and that abnormal heart as she could. Powerfully visual and emotive.
