Here And Now

“Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.”—Voltaire

There is a lesson we all need
to learn–treasure family and friends
while they are here. Tears shed
after a loved one is gone, are often
on your own behalf–that failure
to patch up a quarrel, to visit
more often than once in a while,
and to utter those words that leave
no doubt about how you hold
them in esteem. Do it, while
they are here. It is a lesson
we all need to learn.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  5. How very true Sara! One envies those who still have their parents. Now is the time to visit them when they are still around.

Yes, true. So often after a person passes away, one thinks….if only….. Better to live in such a way that there are no such regrets. Appreciate, and let the person know, today!

  12. True that. We need to learn the lesson. The lesson is a simple one but can make our lives much better in every respect. Nicely penned… 🙂
