Ninety-Nine Percenters

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #271

Words:  birth, we, delve, tell, thrive, spent, plant, way, thousand, break, bounce, wake

Thousands are spent,
and disgusted–weary of
our country’s elections.
Collections for campaigns
tell of breaks in the concrete
of our unity. We are split,
some just making it, others
thriving–well watered plants
since birth. They grow
and leave a dearth of variety
needed to round out
our garden. Back and forth
they bounce, like ping-pong
balls, delving into each other’s
past for dirt, leaving a trail
of mud in their wake.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

It has been said this time around the campaign had been rough as never before. A lot of dirty linen bandied about which hammered at both their credibility. Every one seemed jittery!

From what I’ve seen, Purple Pen, it’s been a very divisive and uncomfortable state of affairs. You’ve captured it well.

So much said here! Your ending is a perfect analysis to the sad state of affairs! We are watching closely in Canada because whatever happens greatly impacts us!

  4. A perfect analysis of the political goings-on that dominate the news even over here across the pond. Excellent
