Written for dVerse Poets, Quadrille #20

De (WhimsyGizmo) here, and right on cue, it’s time for my favorite prompt, the Quadrille, in which we write a poem of exactly 44 words, including one required word.

Today’s new Q is the word cue.

Cue the opening music. Cue the closing credits. Miss your cue. Write about the best ’cue (BBQ) you ever ate. (Mmmmmm.) Make it a verb, a noun, or an adjective (cue stick, as in pool.) Get all fancy with some curli-

Cue cards printed
in large letters, words
to those we’ve all heard.
Absurd to ignore
chairman’s advice.
Wants to see crowds
pumped up, wired.
If staff does not conform,
they’re fired. Countdown
has begun. I can’t wait
‘til it’s over and done.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I know I’m in the minority of poet-bloggers, but I am super pumped-up today! Donald and I are kind of kindreds, though. 😛

  4. Brian says:

Cue the wall-to-wall coverage on every media platform. Frantic and breathless predictions.
