New Parent Challenge

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #283

Words:  soul, hope, birth, reach, earth, give, burden, light, heart, heavy, touch, cope

You must have heart,
and hope to give birth
to a new soul on this earth
in its current state. Heavy
burden to raise a child
in this time of coping
with deluge of social media
in easy reach, teaching
them values, and morals.
A critical challenge faces
new parents–that of keeping
lightness afloat, and touch
soft in their young years,
fears at a minimum.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I wonder whether parents haven’t felt that whatever age they lived in. Their children going to school alone in WW2 hoping there wasn’t a bombing raid, or in Victorian times where children went to work far earlier than today in terrible conditions. Then what would parents in those times think of the amount of traffic on the roads today and the speed it went. Then in future would parents be aghast at the amount of chemicals children eat in food in our presnt time? It is interesting to compare isn’t it?

What a fitting poem for this moment in time.. i believe however that we are stronger than the people who govern..
