Neighborhood Trattoria

Write about your favorite restaurant

Aroma of wood-fired
pizza oven drifts,
sifting through room

as you enter. Greeting from
Italian-accented waiter
who escorts you to table.

You are pleased to be in
original room, cozier than
the addition. Scenes of Italian life

adorn walls. Large board lists
specials, which you may have prepared
to your own preference.

After placing drink order,
a basket of white cloth-wrapped
bread is set in center of table

along with fried cubes
of polenta, accompanied
by dish of olive oil sprinkled

with oregano for dipping.
As you sip your wine,
Chef Vittorio wends his way

through tables, smiling
and greeting all patrons,
most of whom he has seen often.

Pick up your menu; try to choose.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
