And The People Spoke

Written for:  dVerse Poets – Quadrille #25, dawn

You might have noticed that we favor words for the Quadrille that can be used as both nouns and verbs. Or maybe you would like to make it dawnlike.

Dawn is also a great word that can be used as a metaphor for change. Change is something happening, and we might anticipate, or we might fear it. But one thing is clear changes come and changes go, just like one day follows another.

So as usual the challenge today is to write a poem using exactly 44 words including dawn in the main body of the text. Visit and read the others. Write a second or a third. Have fun.

The people gathered,
lathered up–
their country in crisis.
Spin, spin–look
who wins. Like
a roulette wheel,
uneven keel.
With megaphones,
signs and lines,
they marched,
chanted, raved,
and ranted. Some
gave speeches–
let’s impeach him.
At dawn, brawn lost
to brains.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
