Hidden Spaces

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Space
Today our motif is all about Space, whether it is Cosmos or a tiny dot.

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.”—Maya Angelou

“What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is most important of all voyages discovery, and without it all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.”—Thomas Merton

My mind holds
a private space,
a center of thoughts
all my own, a second place
I can call home.

My heart holds
a loving space,
able to expand
for those I have
yet to meet.

The world holds
tangible spaces–
oceans, mountains, prairies–
to visit. But need is great
to fashion your own.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Indeed! We wrote about the same thing. I like your embraces–the mind, heart, and world each “hold.” Lovely.

Lovely writing Sara. We do have to nurture that hidden space of love and expand it.

I love the comparison of the three types of spaces, all so different and yet so similar. Well-penned!
