Leaving On A High Note

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #286

Words:  challenge, face, half, melody, rag, resound, rhythms, root, song, stool, unusual, upright

Age resounds
in each bone
and muscle. Not
unusual that her famous
face falls a bit loosely now,
as do her eyelids.  But like

a tree, her roots are sturdy,
her carriage  upright.
She is preparing  to meet
the challenge of her swan song.
Hers is a true tale of rags-

Here she sits,in her glory,
on a stool at the piano,
in elegant dress, half-swaying
to rhythms, as she sings
the melodies that made her
a star.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I love this! I can just see her sitting there singing the songs that made her famous.
