Pine Islands

Written for:  Carpe Diem #1150, Matsushima (pine islands)
Matsushima is a bay in Miyagi prefecture – 25 km from the prefectural capital, Sendai – that is famous for its view of over 260 tiny pine-clad islands – “matsu-shima” meaning “pine islands.”

This very rural area, with a local population of less than 20,000, is also famous for the delicious oysters farmed in the bay, and for its colorful Obon lantern festival in August.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
