These Strangers in a foreign World
                            by Emily Dickinson

These Strangers, in a foreign World,
Protection asked of me —
Befriend them, lest Yourself in Heaven
Be found a Refugee —

In the realm of possibilities,
a stranger can become a friend.
Pretend you are that new kid
in school, every face unfamiliar
to you. One smile, a word or
two, and you can ease another’s
fears. In the realm of possibilities,
you may be the stranger.

Perfectly said. We all take a turn being the stranger, and the one who welcomes the stranger……

  3. Ah yes, we must remember the realm of possibilities, and it being likely we’ll take a turn as strangers ourselves. I love the words of the song that’s popular now “Always Be Humble and Kind”. Good advice!

My family moved a lot when I was a child, so I was always the stranger. But someone always became my friend!
