Last Guy On Earth

Written for:  Poetic Asides April 2017 Challenge – Day 23
For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Last (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. Possible titles include: “Last Starfighter,” “Last Unicorn,” “Last Day of Summer,” “Last Cookie in the Cookie Jar,” and so on.

If you were the last guy
on earth, I’d simply sigh, and say,
after your many lies,
how you destroyed my pride, and left
me distraught and bereft,
how can you think your deft or smile
could sway me or beguile
me into reconciling? Hah!

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
