Are You Taken?

Written for:  The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #305

Words:  drunk, sheer, blink, single, snatch, curve, spun, tattered, lash, rooted, dust, sly

 You sly devil
with your curved
black lashes, and
sheer ocean blue
eyes. Are you single,
or have you been snatched
up by another woman
who drank in those blue
orbs in one blink?
I stand rooted in
sidewalk cement,
my heart spinning
like an old 45 rpm
record on a wobbly
turntable. Say
you are free. Write
me love letters
with a fountain pen,
and I will bind them
with ribbon, save them
even when they are
yellowed, tattered,
and decomposing
into dust. Are you free?

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
