Would You Know Me?

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Masks

“A mask tells us more than a face.”
― Oscar Wilde

Can we tell when someone is undisguised?
Do we prefer people to maintain the mask?

Would inhibitions drop
like falling stars
if I got my chance
to live in Disney World
for one day, dressed
as Goofy?

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

There might be slower easier ways but the Goofy remedy might be quick and anonymous.

Yes! Haha. Although you might want to have a few settings beyond Disney ….

  7. Somehow this reminded me of “Bring in the Clowns” and the pretext that all clowns are sad souls in funny faces. Well said.

  8. Mary says:

Ha, this made me smile. I have always wondered the same thing about clowns – if they could do things in costume that they were too inhibited to do in real life.
