My Father’s Gratitude

Written for:  Poetic Asides #407 – Write a big event poem e.g. eclipse, wedding, concert, or a trip to the library.

forget that
look of happiness
on my father’s face when he caught
his first glimpse of World War Two Veteran’s monument
in Washington, D.C.  Though he was unable to walk, balked at using a wheelchair,
tears of joy were evident as we toured this tribute to a time in which he was an active
     participant, a believer in justice.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
