Lennon Day

Written for:  Poems of Garden Gnomes – “Today We Celebrate”
“We can find something to celebrate on pretty much every day of the year. Be it a national holiday, a local celebration or just making it through another day in this jumbled world in which we live.”

Happy Birthday, John.  How we need
your presence in this present
day world. I try to imagine
what you would be singing
about these days. Would you
still hope love is all we need?
Greed seems to be a way
of life here on earth. Today,
I celebrate your birth.
The fact that you were here
at all, is something I am
grateful for. Your brought
music, art, love, and humor,
even if for a brief time.
I lift my glass of wine,
and salute you. Happy Birthday,

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
