last day

Written for:  Carpe Diem #1314 – “The Nightingale”  (from Omar Khayyam)
“We have seen the Rose and Spring earlier here in one of the quatrains. This time it seems to tell us something more about the fading of time, or the fading youth.”

Ah Love ! could thou and I with Fate conspire
To grasp this sorry Scheme of Things entire,
Would not we shatter it to bits – and then
Re-mould it nearer to the Heart’s Desire !

Here is my attempt:

on his last day
no sight, no scarf against wind
melted snowman

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
