Who’s in Charge?

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Psyche/Soul  (posted by Susan)
“Your Challenge: In today’s new poem, turn your attention to themes of consciousness and unconsciousness, to soul or to Psyche herself.”

“. . . the heart of the star as opposed to the shape of a star, let us say — exists in a mysterious, unmapped zone: not unconscious, not subconscious, but cautious.”
~ Mary Oliver

Who rules the roost
when soul and body
are in conflict? What use
can the mind be if Pilates
is in the cards? Or, say
the mind is occupied
by dream of moonbeam rays,
will the body’s wishes be nullified?
Who rules the roost–
soul or body?

Yes! A certain amount of caution must apply when mind and body are deciding who’s the leader. I love that you paired that quote with your poem.

The body is sometimes a reluctant companion for the mind. My two are bickering all the time!

It’s nice when we believe or do something with our body and soul. But, what you say is true – they don’t always agree.
Good point made by your lovely poem.

Good question. I’m afraid the body probably does more times than not…and not sure that’s a good thing!

  7. Good question! I say the soul because, in the end, it affects the body, good or bad.

I would say the soul too, for how much power it has over our body…(whether we realise it or not….)

  10. The soul rules. It is forever after all. But the body is the vessel without which the soul cannot act.
A never-ending question, but the body does have an end. So…
