Delicious Orchards

Written for:  Poetic Aside #425 – Write a happy distraction poem.
“For today’s prompt, write a happy distraction poem. For people used to social media, this would be akin to someone asking for pictures of cats or puppies or babies to help cheer them up. So instead of big, difficult poems this week, let’s write poems about the happy, little moments that bring cheer (like cats playing keyboards or babies laughing or puppies chasing their own tails around in circles).”

An orchard for picking
berries in summer, apples
in fall. That is not all.
Marvelous market of fresh
foods. No bad moods tolerated
here. Enter. Scent of home-
baked donuts, pies, and cakes
permeates nostrils, slowly
working its way down to stomach.

Aisles of fruit and vegetables
looking pose-ready for a magazine
cover. Meat fish, and dairy–
sauces, mustards, and coffees.
Exotic teas and array of candies
completes the tour.

We always buy more than we need.
Last week was our first trip here
in over eight years. Pleased to
say that Delicious Orchards
has not changed.  On every face,
a smile displayed.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
