Simple Slash of Violet

Written for Poets United Midweek Motif~Color

“Today, I’m inviting us to question how color around us shapes our moods and how our moods influence our environments.

The Challenge: In your brand new poem, reveal the color of a place or an event.”

“I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.”― Alice Walker

Slash of violet
across evening sky
like a glint in a wolf’s
eye, assures a dawn
of pastels.

Light my lavender candle
against dark of evening.
Recall a lilac bush
blooming in a back yard,
dogs barking.

A serene scent of oil
that I dab on my wrists
aids me in meditative sleep–
my fists against nightmare creatures.

When morning light awakens
me, I anticipate the bliss
of biting into the golden flesh
of a black–purple plum.

Mmm–you’ve used all the purples in a place of love and delight–even protection from nightmare creatures.

    Beautiful, Sara! Especially
    ‘Slash of violet
    across evening sky
    like a glint in a wolf’s
    eye…’
and I can smell the lavender that
    ‘aids me in meditative sleep–
    my fists against nightmare creatures’
    and taste
    ‘…the golden flesh
    of a black–purple plum’.

One can almost picture a serene morning of purple that twinkles menacingly. Beautiful take Sara!

How lovely! A beautiful purple poem. One of my favorite shades is mauve.
