Battle of Smart and Stupid

Written for:  Poetic Asides 2018 April PAD Challenge – Day 9
Take the phrase “Battle (blank)”, replace the blank with a word
or phrase; make the new phrase your title.

I’d love to debate you, says Smart,
thinking has become a lost art,
so I have developed a chart.
When do we start? When do we start?

Says Stupid, I know more than you.
I excel at all that I do.
I stand strong for the red, white, and blue.
What’s your IQ? What’s your IQ?

Smart: What about global warming?
Stupid: Look at me, I’m yawning.
Smart: The salmon have stopped spawning.
Stupid is bored.  Stupid is bored.

The debate has run out of steam;
neither knows what the other means.
It seems there is no in-between.
The peacock preens. The peacock preens.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
