Oh Chute!

Written for:  Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads – Day 16
Write a poem that incorporates the idea of a child’s game.  (posted by Rommy)

Oh chute, broken ladder,
and I was going to prune
that tree, you know,
the one looks like candy-
land when we spruce it up
for Christmas. Quite
an operation, that. Chores,
chores, chores. What is life
for, when time is never spare?
Maybe I will inspect our
basement. No one has a clue
about how those raccoons
are getting in. Well Jim,
I best be on my way. See you
on Sunday.

  1. Sorry, I can’t find the childhood game here. Unless it’s decorating the Christmas tree? I suppose the clue is in the word “chute”. It reads to me like a euphemism for the expostulation, “shit”.

She got in several. Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Operation, Clue etc. Inventive take on the prompt.
