winter forest

Written for:  Carpe Diem’s Crossroads #6 A Leafless Tree (Soseki Natsume)
“Welcome at a new episode of our special feature “crossroads” in which I challenge you to create a “fusion” haiku from two haiku given.”

the crow has flown away:
swaying in the evening sun,
a leafless tree.

over the wintry
forest, winds howl in rage
with no leaves to blow.

Two wonderful haiku that show that Soseki was familiar with Basho’s haiku, because you can easily “see” two renown haiku by Basho in this set by Soseki Natsume.

a leafless tree
sways in the autumn wind
no sound is heard

Here is my attempt:

winter’s forest
winds wail through limbs
echoing in bareness

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
