Lace-Curtain

Written for:  Poetics Aside 2018 April PAD Challenge – Day 25
Pick an intriguing and/or seldom used word, make it the title of your poem, and then write your poem.

In windows she hangs lace curtains,
tries to fit in.

She studies English in night school,
nobody’s fool.

Escaped as dressed; no time to pack,
will not look back.

Fled with husband during attack,
and grandmother’s fine lace curtains.
Smiles, pretends she is not hurting.
Tries to fit in, nobody’s fool, will not look back.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
