Cannot put your spirit
in writing, too sacred.
As years amass, passing
quickly, listen. Breathe
slowly. Bear in mind
action of earth, how
it prospers when well
tended. If vegetables
are dug up prematurely
they wither. Paper
and ink dull yellow
with age. Spirit stays

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

I am sad you can’t put just about everything in writing for I try to. You tend to your vegetables and so you tend to your writing saying what you think about everything in your life. However I am aware writers must be liars too as their experiences are not enough and we may have to use invention to please the reader as well.

I like your ending. Maybe the spirit stays young, until it is time to go. Well wordled!
