Lion In Search Of A Kingdom

“Today I am asking you to choose one of these characters and write from their perspective. Imagine yourself as The Cowardly Lion longing for courage, the Tin Man aching for a heart or The Scarecrow yearning for a brain. Choose one and place yourself within the story, embracing their mindset. Bring their woes and wishes to life in your poem….or use their personas to represent the feelings of being heartless, empty-headed or fearful.”

Fear, fear fear,
that’s me in a nutshell.
Can’t you tell?
I am so embarrassed,
always being harassed
by smaller creatures.
Courage is not one of my better features.
Even my tail is depressed
as I am sure you have guessed.
My new friends are traveling
to see the wizard; I’m unraveling
with each step. What if I am too afraid
to ask for courage or be turned away?
Up ahead is the Emerald City,
everyone’s walking along with me.
I need courage to ask for courage,
it’s no wonder I feel so discouraged.

A glimpse into the agony that poor Cowardly Lion must go through…even afraid to ask for courage but he spoke well through your words, as I am feeling very sorry for him.

  2. Frank Hubeny says:

Good point: “I need courage to ask for courage,”
