What Would Your Dog Say?

Hanson poem

What if dogs could speak
to you, tell you things
like, I prefer wet food,
no more chicken, please.
Treats are a given; I should
not have to beg.

Love long walks, and you
need more exercise. And,
by-the-by, while it is true
I have a buddy at home to nap
and play with, we both
have needs. We would prefer
our toilette to be accessible
without having an overlong
wait, mate. Bladders do not
hold forever. Look at yours!

I appreciate our cuddles,
ears and belly are most
amenable for pets or tickles.
Our beds are lovely; yours
is better, and at least
we are not bed-wetters.
Love us and we will be
loyal, trusting protectors,
and friends.

  1. I LOVE this! And I agree, they should not have to beg for treats or to have their needs met. Love this poem! I adore dogs.

Well, I’ve never met a dog who didn’t want a human’s bed. I think that if Dogs could talk, they’d never be quiet! A fun take of the prompt.

  3. I think you’ve been reading dogs’ minds. I’m quite certain that many pups I’ve seen have hints (very telling hints) of everything your poem says very clear on their faces. And so true about bladders. 😀

You mean dogs don’t talk? Then…who…? lol.

Love it, Sara! Yes, our thoughts were similar on this one.

Yup – I reckon these are the words of our four-legged friends.

  9. AH, I wouldn’t have thought that I would consider a poem so, but this is adorable, Sara.
This is such a lovely take on the prompt. A delightful read.
