Money, Money, Money

Written for:  Poets United Midweek Motif~Money (for World Savings/Thrift Day)
Write a new poem with money as its focus. Dwell on what money is and does, reveal it.

“Don’t tell me what you value, show me your budget,
and I’ll tell you what you value.” ― Joe Biden

A great deal of wealth
will not guarantee health,
but it helps.

Money cannot buy happiness,
but at least it is a distraction.

Emotional peace is something
I value over money.

If you can aid family, friends, or
animals, your money is being

You need a roof over your head,
food for sustenance, and clothing
to keep you warm. Seems simple,
if you have enough money, but if
you do not, it can be a scary world
out there. Share when you can.
You would not like to live in fear
of where your next meal is coming
from or if you will have a bed
that night. Don’t be part of
the waste.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

A strong plea! I won’t be part of the waste.

I love this, Sara. Helping, sharing, caring, make this a kinder world. It can be scary indeed when funds are inadequate. I have struggled financially my entire life, but have lived simply and well and helped others. I have felt fortunate, compared to millions who live on the edge of starvation.

  3. Word so true. Many of us live in a world of excess, taking far too little time to consider those who do not.
